WEB COMIC REVIEW: ASYLUM INK's ELLIUM
CREATOR:ASYLUM INK & FANGORIA GRAPHICS?
COMIC REVIEWER: ANTIONESTRIFE
UPDATES: 3 TIMES WEEK
GENRE: HORROR
Hi again readers. I decided to do something a little different with my comic reviews. Namely I will try to show a updated page of the comic more. It it fits that is. I've done so in the past when I couldn't paste the banner. Today's comic is something different, it's a horror comic. It's called
Asylum Ink and I haven't ran across many of these comics but I the art just pulled me in. The story may be kinda slow for though but more on that later. Lets begin.
PROS: This comic is different. The coloring really hits the mark on how dark the Asylum Ink universe is. The web site was a pleasure to behold with the way the template was designed. There's a blog and the creator gives you some more gruesome art to digest as you wait for the next update. Which isn't to long, Ellium updates 3 times a week at least.
CONS: The drawn characters are a bit stiff. The fonts could be a little bigger. The web site was slow at times, perhaps due to that background template(but it could be due to the traffic to the site). This story moves a bit slow and some of the scenes look like it was compressed too much(mainly the flash backs). The speech boxes are too light to see who they are pointing to sometimes.
FINAL WORD: Well in my opinion this looks like a okay graphic novel. I just don't know if it can hold my interest long enough. What's missing for me is that if your going take awhile to build up the story-- then any action scenes need to be big, loud and leave on a high note. With a horror comic it must be hard but I would think with maybe some bigger drawn pictures showing the gore would be cool. I only really read 5 updates, but it didn't really pull me in to read more. I would suggest that new readers and my self take a deeper look before coming to a hasty decision. I suggest at least a look at this comic if you want to read something different. Lets see what the numbers say...

ELLIUM tells the story of a secret society determined to save the world, whether we want them to or not! Prepare to enter a futuristic world of espionage and the occult, where the true powers behind puppet governments are fighting for control of humanity with only the members of ELLIUM to stand in their way!
In other words, it’s the X-files if Jack Bauer was in charge!

The art style I like but some drawings hit on the target more than others.

One of the better colored comics I had the opportunity to come across. Their use of light and shadow blew me away!

For some reason the writing isn't always smooth to read. The spelling looks okay but it may be a grammar issue( A similar issue I have with my self edited comic). Sometimes I did not know who was talking because the speech balloon arrow blended right into the background. The names of the characters aren't easy to find in the story but they can be found in the "Creative Therapy" section. Which also gives you a synopsis of what this chapter or book is about. That's good news for readers like myself! The fonts are a bit small however. The one confusing thing is what is the name of this comic? The title page says ASYLUM INK but I read going through the site that the name of the book is Ellium? This also makes my head spin trying to guess who created this comic. I guess the reason for this is because I never saw a web comic that the name of the comic wasn't the site. I'm not saying it's wrong it just was confusing. Besides that the site looks great but sometimes it ran slow. I came through the next day and that wasn't even a issue. Maybe there was allot traffic on the site during the time I was on there. the creator(who ever they are) does a great job of communicating with their readers with a blog and "Facebook". There is also a forum for fans. Not sure if this comic needs parental warning. They update about 3 times a week which is also good.

Not a bad web comic but it didn't make me want to read too far back into the archive. I think it's lack of action had something to do with that for me but I expect that to change on future updates(cross fingers). But the story is so damn interesting, so I'm a bit torn. Readers like myself may need a touch of Patience with this one. I think because it looks like a horror comic I expect it to behave like horror comic.

Hmmm... like I said before I'm torn. But if I follow my gut I'm just not their yet. I do like art and story but it moves a bit slow to keep my attention. But I think this comic can take off at any moment it has all the ingredients but maybe one. What is it? That's for the creators to figure out but they're close... very close. I recommend my readers take a look at this comic especially if you want to see something different or if you loved the X-files.
