WEB COMIC REVIEW 21: THE FACTION

WEB COMIC: THE FACTION
WEB COMIC CREATOR: DEEDE. M
WEB COMIC REVIEWER: ANTIONESTRIFE

welcome fellow readers to another web comic review. This one is a treat because when I first joined Drunkduck comics I came across one of the most consistent artist ever. This one this persons work and joy. despite the fact it wasn't flashy it had a story that really gripped me. The web comic reviewed today is The Faction enjoy...

PROS: Huge archive! Packed with currently 678 pages. The story may have been concluded. but new art work is added at least once a week. She's currently working a new book called Dead Fingers with also big archive, but I'll review that at another time... soon. Very good story. Girls will love the romance and drama. Guys will love the action and twist this story will take. The arts not great but it's unique-- and she does improve with each update. Mature rating easy to locate.

CONS: The story starts off kinda slow. The art in the beginning is okay. There are allot of fan art, that may throw you off if you miss some updates.

FINAL WORD: Sure this comic has it's flaws but it makes up with the ones it has by being consistently updated with a very good story. I wasn't impressed with the art (a couple years ago) at first but I noticed Dee Dee had her own style and it did shine when I didn't try to compare her art to Jim Lee. She can really tell a good story and in the end I enjoyed this original web comic.

OVERALL SCORE: 8.5

CONCEPT: 9

Very original story, It's story about love, friendship, struggle and triumph. Mota is the anti hero who finds his true love Laci while fighting a evil empire and some old enemies.

Art: 8.0

The art style doesn't remind me of other artist's work. the art in the beginning was okay but Dee Dee grew into her own style as she went over 300. Looks much better in color though. The backgrounds become better and better.

Color: 8.0

the coloring make the art work look much more lively. Good job!

READERSHIP: 9.5

Well written and easy to read. No misspells in sight. It's DD web site but it serves it purpose and you can see comments on her web comic easily. One perk for having a DD site you can have easy access to other web comics. Having two web comics going on at the same time beats a blog. But go figure she has that too but the link isn't easy to find.

ENTERTAINMENT: 8

A Gripping story with finally a huge archive to dive into. Not to mention her other web comic. She's able to keep the story interesting with updates with only have a few words spoken but with pictures who that move things along nicely. I need to take notes on that! Still, the story does move slow at first.

CHANCES OF BECOMING A FAN: 9.5

Already there. This comic just snuck up on me. To be honest I wasn't sure about this comic when I first saw it. But it showed me that a artist should be given some time to improve while they find there style. I only make this exception if they are a great story teller like Dee Dee.

WEB COMIC REVIEW RECAP:01

Hi there old and new readers. I decided after some thought that I will do a recap of the 20 comics I reviewed so far. This starts from first to worst Including my own web comic. If you want to see more in depth analysis, just follow the links. I decided to do this because I don't want my reviews to be buried under a pile updates. So you can stay up on what comics rock, what comics do not and what comics fall in the middle. I'm sorry if you find any misspells in these old post. I haven't had time to find all the errors yet. Enjoy!

1. Penny Arcade Overall score:10 The current champion! The story and art doesn't rock the boat but this web comic has done so much well along with it's high page rank, that I must call it boss-- for now.

2.DrowTales Overall score: 9.5 This web comic is a fantasy fan delight. Large archive and great site to visit.

3. Eben 07 Overall score:9.5 This comic is the best when in comes to spies and espionage.

4.Lil Nyet Overall score: 9.0 This is one of those web comics that should have more readers because it updates constantly and has some interesting characters.

5.Brat Halla Overall score: 8.5 There is a huge archive with this comic and the art style stands out because you don't see it much any more. The story can be kinda slow at times but this web comic is
consistent. So updates are no problem here.

6. Machinegun Angel Overall score: 8.5 This comic was more entertaining than the previous comic but it recently came off of Hiatis. Small archive but the story is really that good. It has to be for me to rave about it especially when it's a black and white comic.

7. Annyseed Overall score: 8.5 This comic has allot of potential but it's still rather new. Or the artist started from scratch. It's pretty interesting story staring a teenage vampires. This review isn't complete because of a paste error. I had some difficulty fixing the html on this page so I gave up.

8. Peter and Company Overall score: 8.0 This comic has great art work but the story lacks the humor or drama that normally would go with this type of art style.

9. XKCD Overall score: 6.5 (Potential score 8.0) No, I did not make a mistake. This stick figure comic made it here because of it's potential score (see above) and it's page rank and huge following. This comic is well written and fun to read but only if you can get by the stick figures. To be honest this comic is one of the most entertaining comics I read. I just didn't like the art at all. But the numbers don't lie. I just had to take a second look at this anomalie and grade it on a curve.

10. Cirlce Vs. Square Overall score: 8.0 This comic about cirlces and shapes got a flat out 8 but only because the title fit the art exactly. It didn't hurt that the artist/writer is not a A-hole. This comic is smartly written but for some reason is not as to fun to read as XYKD... go figure.

11. Failed Objective Overall score: 7.5 This comic is definitely not a failed objective. It shows promise and can be
hilarious at any time. Okay art, big archive, updates well enough but needs to give readers the names of it's characters at some point.

12. The Black Fox Overall score: 7.5 Not a bad comic but it needs a little more drama to go with this well drawn and written comic. It just moves way too slow for me.

13. Inbetween Failures Overal score: 7.0 This web comic could have scored higher if it had a content warning. Very good art with color to along with easy going story line. Huge archive! 407 from last time I reviewed and counting. I recommend a look despite it's average score.

14. Rain Of Gods Overall Score: 6.5 This is my web comic that may soon be coming out of hiatis, which is currently average. It has allot of potential but I still have a ways to go to work out all kinks. It's about mythology with a little of everything. If anything-- it's not boring, but in need of editing from time to time.

15.Tacticle Diversion Overall score: 6.5 This comic really scored higher than I thought it should. But yet again the numbers don't lie. I think it's worth a look because it's unique of what I've seen online. It's about talking avatars. Unique doesn't equal good however... The creator requested my review and may have made some upgrades since I last saw it.

16. Mistakes Of Youth Overall score: 6.0 This was my first web comic review! Was I too hard on this comic? Maybe but this comic did the opposite of XYKD. It is well drawn but made no sense at all from when I last seen it. I guess that irritated me more than the stick figures.

17. But Mullet Overall score: 6.0 This comic while below average was a joy to read. The art and the story wasn't bad. Don't ask me why but I never did the overall score for this comic so the above score may change.

18. Doomed To obscurity Overal score: 5.5 Below average comic that has some potential to move higher if the creator made some changes to his site. Reminds me of Dilbert with out the dog.

19. Amazoness Overall score: 4.5 Wow, I had no mercy with this comic. After seeing some of the comics a rated. I think is could have scored higher. It just didn't help-- that me and the creator didn't hit it off. Besides that-- it bothered me that the women drawn didn't look like women. And what is
a story with Amazons with no fighting? That's how it was when I last read this comics archive. The story isn't bad though it's allot of reading and it's in color.I think it should be at least a 6.0, but I will rate this one over at later date.

20. Archwood Overall score: 4.5 Out of all the comics I saw there was nothing I liked about this one. But it has page rank of 5 when last I saw. So somebody likes it, I guess it's like Jerry Springer so bad you can't look away.

There was a comic I left out that scored even lower but I wanted stop at 20 even. Hope you enjoyed this recap be on the look out for more web comic reviews. I think that every year I will do a top 20 web comic page or let you guys vote, maybe. The following year I will ether review these comics I already rated to move their score up or down. I also may start rating chapters of web comic archives if time permits, this could mean more exposure for you web comic artist. I haven't decided yet but stay on the top of your game or keep improving.

WEB COMIC REVIEW 20: ANNYSEED

WEB COMIC REVIEWED: ANNYSEED
CREATOR: STUART J. BROWN
COMIC REVIEWER: ANTIONESTRIFE
UPDATES: N/A

Hope you guys had a happy 4th of July. My wife and I had a blast with fireworks, barbecue and the new Transformers movie! I haven't did a comic review for a awhile so here you go! The comic reviewed today is called Annyseed.

PROS: The Annyseed web comic does a great job with a unique and cute art style to fit it's story line. While I can't put me finger on what direction the story may go in. It does very well in maintaining interest with out too much comedy, wit , or action. The main character is interesting and leads me to believe it's more to this Vampire girl's first day at school than meets the eye. There are also mix of different cultures to give the story some spice. Stuart J. has one of the better webcomic sites put together I've seen! Everything that is connected to this comic is easy to find and there is even some video.

CONS: Hmmm... I'm sure it will be explained, but she's a vampire that goes out during the day to school? It's nice to bend the rules but I always have a problem getting around that one. It does not say when he updates, but if I go by the dates on post it looks like 2-3 times a month. Real small archive, only 11 updates.

LAST WORD: Now this comic has some potential. I think Stuart said he re-did some of his comic or the video? Anyway it looks like he started from scratch and is on his way to a good start. I would like to see updates posted more frequent. Being as his post are low in number and this comic is a good read...I will be patient and see if he becomes faster in the future. This story is little different from other kids in school stories but not much. I have to see what direction the story will take before I form a definite opinion.

OVERALL SCORE: 8.0

CONCEPT: 8.5

Anyyseed is the story of a vampire girl who wants to still have a normal life but has been around since 1955( Good thing she wasn't a little girl when she changed or that would suck, lol! This story has the potential to be something very good or at the same time be something we have see too much of already. Depends how he fleshes out the story. So be careful Stuart...

Art: 8.5

This comic is well drawn. The style stands out on it's own. The backgrounds look fine, but the characters look a little stiff at times. The facial feature are also sometimes off center.

Color: 10

Very good job on the coloring. The work is top notch.

READERSHIP: 9.0

A pleasure to read with good grammar and no misspells. This comic is for everyone so I would say it's rated PG. The Annyseed web comic while not having a blog is well put together. ONE OF THE BEST I'VE SEEN! Everything is easy to find and you can find out who the characters are quickly. My only gripe was when does he update? Being that is post count is low I let it go for now. Stuart has a pretty small archive but I see what he has a couple months from now.

ENTERTAINMENT: 8.0

This comic wasn't a strain to read at all. The main character just makes this car go. I just wondered how a vampire could survive in the sunlight with out a spell or some kind of ring. I know rules are made to be broken but that's big one with out a explanation. Once I got past that the story was quite fun.

CHANCES OF BECOMING A FAN: 7

I like it but I don't know when he'll update next. So until I know how often or when he updates I don't know when I come back any time soon. I recommend at least a look.
