2011 WEB COMIC REVIEW 02: GRRL POWER THE WEB COMIC

WEBCOMIC: GRRL POWER THE WEB COMIC
CREATORS: DAVID BARRACK
UPDATES: MONDAY
GENRE: MANGA/strip
ARCHIVE: 23 PAGES

Looks like I will be giving you guys another review sooner rather then later. Todays web comic is called Grrl Power the web comic. It's still some what new. It only has a little over 23 pages.

PROS: The art and the web site look good. Navigating the site was easy and most of time the pages load fast. Pages look well organized and most info was easy to find. The creator seems like one of the most down to earth people from the comments I read.

CONS: Not much of a archive yet because the comic is still a young buck. The slowest web comic site I ever been too! For some reason it took for ever to load a page when submitting a comment. WTF! As I'm writing this... that page is still loading. Some pages showed a "HTTP 500 internal error on server message" so I was only able to read a few pages until I said forget it. It may be hard to find on Goggle. The page Rank is barely available and hence may not be listed on some of the search engines.

LAST WORD: This comic looks good so far. The creator seems to be to still in that phase of what direction he is going to be take the story. From what I read, he is starting to flesh out a more consistent story line instead of the gag a page comic strip he was doing. But the loading problem seems to spawn from the server he's using to host his comic. Maybe I picked the wrong time to read this comic it is like 3am in morning. Yawwwwn! I went back a bit later and site worked  better. Pages still loaded real  slooooww... at times. So log off and come back. The artist beats himself up with his short comings. He mentioned he still needs work on drawing mountains. I saw the mountain he attempted to draw. He can draw and color them better than I can.

OVERALL SCORE: 7.5

CONCEPT: 8.5
A comic about super heroines. Well there are guys too but mostly it’s about the girls. Doing the things that super powered girls do. Fighting crime, saving the world, dating, dieting, shopping, etc. There’ll be explosions, cheesecake, beefcake, heroes and villains, angels and demons, cyborgs, ninjas, probably pirates.

ART: 9.0
Very well done on most fronts. This artist has talent but occasionally miss draws a mouth?

COLORING OR SHADING: 9.0
Well done. The coloring and shadows look good but not great like Red's Planet or Drowtales.

WRITTING AND SPELLING: 8.5
The creator misspells here there but is open critism from his readers who don't mind giving a helping hand. David makes corrections quickly. The story is easy enough to follow.

WEB PAGE LAYOUT: 8.5
This web page is delight to look at. However the page load "slow downs"... may drive you batty if you go there at certain times. Website is well organized and information is easily avialable.

ENTERTAINMENT: 8.0
This comic is interesting and if not for site dragging a bit too many times I would off  enjoyed this one more. It is a little funny at times and the main character is likeable.

POST FREQUENCY: 5.0
Every monday in full color is good for this comic-- that is still growing.

POPULARITY: 3.0
This comic may not have no page Rank but it has some fans. It had 24 comments in the last post and at has atleast 3 in most post. For a 6 month old comic that is not bad.

2011 WEB COMIC REVIEW 01: ASYLUM INK

WEBCOMIC: ASYLUM INK
CREATORS: ASYLUM INK & FANGORIA GRAPHICS?
UPDATES: M W F but currently on Hiatis. Last updated Dec. Which should end on Feb 1rst
GENRE: Horror
ARCHIVE: They do not number them but they have 4 completed books. I was told they 1055 pages!

Welcome to the first web comic review of the year 2011! First let me warn you to read the whole review before you click links. THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT! Today's comic is one I reviewed about 2 years ago. It's called Asylum Ink and I haven't ran across many of these comics online. The art is a bit graphic but it is well done. I took out the virus statement below because the site owner fixed it. I had no further problems!

PROS: As before this comic is different.. The coloring really hits the mark on how dark the Asylum Ink universe is. This webcomic has two names or rather two connecting stories. The other story is Ellium so I'm sorry for the confusion. The web site was a pleasure to behold with the way the template was designed. It is even better this time. There's a blog and the creator gives you some more gruesome art to digest as you wait for the next update. The artist improved a bit from my last visit, the fonts are bigger. The page download is faster, and I can tell when it updates. Ellium updates 3 times a week!

CONS:  This is major issue! If you go to this site steer clear of the Ellium page unless if you have updated antivirus program!  This site has much graphic content. Some of the pages still load slow. Those with weak stomachs need not apply. This web comic is on Hiatis until Feb 1, 2011.

FINAL WORD:   Wow they really took some my suggestions and made some changes. This is a horror comic with some intense visuals. The website is better and they added wall paper books for you to check out. This comic is interesting and would have scored a better overal score if not for that thingy.  They scored a 7.0 the last time I saw this comic lets see how they measure right now...

OVERALL SCORE: 8.0

CONCEPT: 9.0
Asylum Ink is a compendium of dark art, sci-fi and fantasy that entertains and horrifies. You be the judge of that. This comic is desturbing but different. ELLIUM tells the story of a secret society determined to save the world, whether we want them to or not! Prepare to enter a futuristic world of espionage and the occult, where the true powers behind puppet governments are fighting for control of humanity with only the members of ELLIUM to stand in their way!

ART: 8.5
The art has improved some. The characters aren't so stiff as before and they change camera angles well.

COLORING AND SHADING: 10
The coloring and use of shadows still blow my mind!

WRITTING AND SPELLING: 9.5
They fixed there speech baloon problem I pointed out. The story flows a bit better. The writing isn't so choppy like before. The spelling looks fine.

WEB PAGE LAYOUT: 7.5
Most of the page load fast, looks great and it's easier to navagate the pages. There is a forum and much content to see here. Some pages still load kinda slow.

ENTERTAINMENT: 8.0
The web comic scored higher  then before but I might have to read a whole book to know for sure. There is more action this time around and it's not as slow from what I read on recent post.

POST FREQUENCY: 8.5
This comic is currently on Hiatis until Feb 1st, but they did update 3 times week in color and with this level of coloring... is pretty good. So I will let them slide on this one.

POPULARITY: 4.0
A page rank of 3 is better then before and they do get some comments. They may do better once they return from vacation.

OTHER WEB COMIC AWARDS!

I figure to be well rounded web comic reviewer I will add some other things to keep things from becoming stale for you or me. These other awards, while not as big as web comic of the year still will point what you guys did well. There will be no voting because I know only 2 web comics will muster a respectable response. I'm chosing these but next year it may be voting. We will see...

CATEGORIES:
THE BEST WEB PAGE TEMPLATE
THE MOST UPDATED WITH IN A WEEK
BEST OVERAL STORY
BEST ART
BEST COLORING
THE MOST ORIGINAL CONCEPT
THE MOST ORGANIZED WEBSITE

I may stop there but these may change or they may be deleted all together. I'll explain them below.

THE BEST WEB PAGE TEMPLATE
Easy enough, the the best webpage that I thought looked the best and didn't slow down. This is a close call but a few of you really stood out.

THE MOST UPDATED WITH IN WEEK
This title may change but this for the the web comic that updates the most with the most work put in over a week. No stick figures will be considered becuase of the ease they can be done.

BEST OVERAL STORY
This one will be for the web comic that has the best story that makes you never miss a update. This one will be tough becuase you all have good stories.

BEST ART
This is tricky. The way I rate art-- is by the genre. What ever is the peak in it's chosen genre is what I will rate it against. Example a comicstrip type I will rate against similar comic strips that are popular like Calvun andf Hobes or such. Then again to make it simple I will just chose the best art that I think is best.

BEST COLORING
This is more straight forward. The coloring that has bad ass affects and jump off the page will win this one.

THE MOST ORIGINAL CONCEPT
This one is very easy for me. I go by what this comic does to make it really original. It can be story or some function I don't see used often.

THE MOST ORGANIZED WEBSITE
Another easy one. CAN I EASILY FIND INFORMATION on the site? Many of you don't do well for some reason?

I'll post these soon as possible...

FOR REAL THIS TIME! THE WINNER IS...

Sorry it took to long. I had to do a double and I didn't want to just slap this up.

AND THE 2011 WEB COMIC ALL STAR OF THE YEAR IS..................... WAYRIFT!

Congrats on having a jolly good comic and great fans! They really made you proud! The runner up was no other than 2010 champ Eben 07 that was not so far behind. These were the voting results, down below. Not exactly the way I wanted to post this.... but that was the only way it would past. Both comics deserved to win!  Their  fans really made this poll a successs. Sadly none of the other comics put up too much of a fight. Perhaps when my site "Web Comic All Stars" becomes more of a force, more fish will bite. Don't worry Eben 07 you are second but you won't be forgotten.

AND THE WINNER IS...

I will announce the winner later tonight after a recount and some thought. Both comics deserve to win. This will be tough decision. Stay tunned. You all should know it came down between the infamous Eben 07 and Wayrift. Their fans really represented! I had a feeling that that these two would be the front runners before I decided to try this poll voting idea. This was just a test but I'm happy with the first time results. The winner will appear on the first page of Web Comic All Stars for the whole year. I will throw something else in when I think of something that will  make sense. For now I'm still tweeking.

2010 WEB COMIC REVIEW 21: PHOENIX REQUIEM

WEB COMIC: THE PHOENIX REQUIEM
CREATOR: SARAH ELLETON
UPDATES: Mondays and Thursdays
GENRE: Supernatural drama
ACHIVE: 759 pages

Happy New Years readers! I had missed some of my favorite comics from my reviews for last year! I may throw in 1 or 2 before I put up the voting poll for the web comic of the year. More on that later. Today's comic is The Phoenix Requiem. Hope you enjoy this one as much as I do!

PROS: The art and coloring still kick ass! Still of the most engrossing story I have read. The web site is well organized. The archive got even bigger! 759 as it stands right now. There is a content warning for you to easily find. She did not respond to my last review but she did fix what I was gripping about. You can now comment on post now!

CONS: None, except this comic was on hiatus for some time. But it was before this review was done.

LAST WORD: This comic keeps moving forward and even moved up a page rank. It's now "page rank of 5" when it used to be a "page rank or 5". If you haven't read this story yet what are you waiting for!

OVERALL SCORE: 9.0

CONCEPT: 10
Phoenix Requiem is a Victorian-inspired supernatural fantasy story about faith, love, death and the things we believe in. Because of the level of thought she put into this story and for the plot twist and interesting characters she scored over and beyond in this area. Pretty original!

ART: 10
Flawless and I like how the style does not remind me of anything I have seen.

COLORING OR SHADING: 10
I still think Drowtales has the best coloring out there for this drawing style but Sarah comes closer than most.

WRITTING AND SPELLING: 10
Well written and the spelling and grammar don't look bad to me.
WEB PAGE LAYOUT: 9.5
The Web site is well organized and the lay out loads fast and works just fine. I like the background color of this site as well. You can now comment on post! Plus there is still much content to see here and even a intro for new readers!

ENTERTAINMENT: 9.0
This is still a comic that I have a lot of archive to catch up on but still a interesting read.

POST FREQUENCY: 7.0
Mondays and Thurdays. Twice a week in full color of this quality art, isn't bad at all.

POPULARITY: 7.0
This web comic has been busy! It's the only web comic I reviewed over a year ago that moved up a rank. It's now "page rank of 5" and does get some steady readers that comment.
