WEB COMIC : SUPERNORMAL STEP
CREATOR: MICHEAL LEE LUNSFORD
UPDATES: MON AND THUR
ARCHIVE: 9 CHAPTERS ??? UNKNOWN PAGE COUNT
GENRE: SUPER HERO
Happy new year! Yes I know that is late as hell. Please bear with me, this my first post of 2013. I was unsure of when and if I would do web comic awards this year. I started so late and did not reach my quota of at least 40 reviews. Oh well I have a web comic review for ya It's called Supernormal Step!
PROS: This is one colorful, funny ride. The characters are memorable even if you tend to forget most of their names. This comic just makes you want to keep reading. I went through chapter one before I even knew it. There is plenty to see at this site from store browsing, deviant art, a gallery and more.
CONS: How many pages are in a chapter? You can only comment on updates if you join the forum. This can take awhile. This web page is one step from being ad heavy. No synopsis to be found.
LAST WORLD: This is decent comic. The first chapter did a great job to make me want to see more pages. The page numbers are absent but that's too bad. I'll cut Micheal, slack since he has such a big archive and that would be a pain to redo. You can't share comments until you join the forum, which as I stated above may take awhile. The web site does have plenty of cool links and pages! The ads are well organized, I'll give him that. On the other hand it's almost too much. I did like what I read and saw but I couldn't tell you what the story is about in one sentence even after reading the first chapter. Some web comics don't really need a "About page" but this one does. That is a must for any web comics that is graphic novel like. (Update)I will add that the character page does point out what the focus of the story is by reading about: Fiona. This was not apparent from what I was reading at first. Also what the story is about is normally not in the "Cast page" so my synopsis complaint will stand.
|OVERALL SCORE: 7.5|
Aliens, super powers and magic are in this one. Fiona is the Heroin that is just trying to help those that can't help themselves and she just wants to get back home. I did not find this out til I ripped the site apart for info. It was in plain sight but not where it would normally be. It should not have been that hard.
Nice work and still improving.
COLORING OR SHADING: 8.0
The coloring works nicely with the art style. Nice use of shadows and even a good attempt at highlights. There are no jaw dropping color affects.
WRITING AND SPELLING: 9.0
The writing and spelling looks okay. Some pages can be a bit wordy however. The story is easy to follow but would be hard to explain until you find the stories objective by accident in the character page.
WEB PAGE LAYOUT: 9.0
Nicely done! The web page, despite being ad heavy is very well organized. It looks pretty good , loads fast and most info is easy to find and all links appear to work. The only draw back is if you try to comment on a update. You need to join the forum and it takes awhile to be approved. I'm still waiting...
This web comic kept me flipping pages for a whole chapter and more. The characters will tickle you at times.
POST FREQUENCY: 6.0
Twice a week in full color is decent.
A Page rank of 4 and a okay size member forum may mean... this web comic may just be starting to hit it's stride!
